So my latest project has been a steampunk broadsword. I've seen several peoples take on steampunk swords. Some very cool. I started with a cheap gothic style sword that I got years ago at one of those shops that sell useless weapons to unsuspecting teenagers.
The concept for this project is that in a distopian steampunk world recylcing of components would be essential for making weapons. This broadsword is defin
I got these gears from a junk pile with a lovely coat of rust courtesy of being left outside for years. As well as a piece of iron pipe. I turned the pipe on a grinder until it fit nicely inside the gear used as the hand guard. The pommel is another thicker gear. The tang of the sword is a steel rod that I threaded and trimmed to fit the handle size I wanted. The sword is a one and a half hand. It can comfortably be used one or two handed. The balance turned out almost perfect and though heavy overall it is a very balanced weapon.
My next project is going to be making a scabbard for this weapon. I plan to make it across the back and integrate a compartment for sword care supplies such as a sharpening stone and oil.
I also am going to re-temper the blade. it's stainless and I don't know if ever has been tempered but I plan to increase the temper as right now the edge gets nicked easily.
